Guide to Friulian wines: what's in our glass

Friulano, Malvasia, Schioppettino: a straightforward guide to the wines of Friuli that we serve at The Garden and how to pair them.

Friuli Venezia Giulia is one of the most fascinating wine regions in Italy, and at The Garden we're proud to serve wines from the territory. Here's a guide to help you navigate our wine list.

The whites

FriulanoThe signature wine of the region. Dry, elegant, with notes of bitter almond in the finish. Perfect as an aperitif or with our crostini.

MalvasiaAromatic and floral, with hints of peach and white flowers. Ideal with lighter dishes, our avocado toast or fresh cheeses.

ChardonnayMore structured, with buttery notes. Pairs well with the richer dishes on our menu.

Pinot GrigioFresh and mineral, the perfect companion for a summer lunch in our courtyard.

The reds

MerlotSoft and fruity, it's the most approachable red. Works with everything, from the charcuterie board to a panino.

Cabernet FrancMore herbaceous and spicy than Merlot, with notes of green pepper. A wine with character.

Cabernet SauvignonStructured and tannic, for those who love bold reds. Try it with our aged charcuterie board.

SchioppettinoThe hidden gem of Friuli. An indigenous red with notes of pepper and wild berries, rare and fascinating. If you find it on our list, don't miss it.

Our recommendation

Don't be afraid to ask. At the bar we're always happy to recommend the right wine for your moment — whether it's a quick aperitif or a long evening in the garden.
