Every cocktail has a story, but few have one as beautiful as the Negroni. And at The Garden, we make it with respect for tradition and a touch of our own.
The origins: Florence, 1919
Legend has it that Count Camillo Negroni, a regular at Caffè Casoni in Florence, one day asked barman Fosco Scarselli to make his Americano stronger. Scarselli replaced the soda with gin, and the Negroni was born.
The classic recipe
The Negroni is democratic in its simplicity: equal parts gin, red vermouth and Campari bitter. Nothing more, nothing less. The garnish is an orange peel — never a slice, always a peel, to release the essential oils.
How we make it at The Garden
We use quality gin, original Campari and artisanal red vermouth. The preparation is done directly in the glass (mixing glass, not shaker — the Negroni should never be shaken). Large ice, stir for 20-30 seconds, pour.
The perfect pairing
The Negroni is bitter, intense, complex. It pairs perfectly with our crostini — the saltiness and fat of the topping balance the bitterness of the cocktail. Try it with our house meatballs: a perfect marriage.
A curiosity
The Negroni has a dedicated week worldwide: Negroni Week, started in 2013, during which bars around the world celebrate this cocktail by donating part of the proceeds to charity. We at The Garden participate every year too.
Our recommendation
If you've never tried a Negroni, this is the right place to start. If you already love it, come and try ours. You won't regret it.
